Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Wednesday she's refusing to vote for a bill on antisemitism awareness, arguing it would see Christians arrested for their faith.
- Raw Story
Faith in what? That today’s Jews should be blamed for killing Jesus? That is one of the oldest despicable forms that antisemitism has taken. And hey, maybe that story in the Gospel IS antisemitic as it applies to those ancient folks. After all there were many competing sects in the ancient holy land, even among Jews, so who knows which group, with a grudge, may have initiated the betrayal.
But like classic antisemitic manifestation, like that Gospel author(s?), let’s blame an entire religion/society for that act. In fact let’s blame them even unto today. Here is MTG’s statement about her vote (and Gaetz voted no for the same reason):
"Antisemitism is wrong, but I will not be voting for the Antisemitism Awareness Act," Greene explained. "[It] could convict Christians of antisemitism for believing the Gospel that says Jesus was handed over to Herod to be crucified by the Jews."
Everything that follows that “but” negates that opening remark of hers (“Antisemitism is wrong...”). Any doubts about MTG’s antisemitism should be cleared up by her vote on H.R. 6090.
